GINSENG
GINSENG
Panax Ginseng(meaning Panacea, or cure-all) also known simply as Ginseng, was discovered more than 5,000 years ago in the mountains of Manchuria. It has since been used extensively throughout almost every culture on the planet – and markedly so in Chinese traditional, Ayurvedic, American Indian, and Aboriginal medicine. It was originally used as a food, but became notorious for its strength-giving and energy-providing abilities. It is a wild root that is easily cultivated, and one of 11 species of slow-growing perennials with fleshy roots. It has become extremely valuable as it is a protected plant in some parts of the world. It is illegal to harvest Ginseng from any national park or forest because it has become an endangered species in America. It is indigenous to northeast China, Korea, Bhutan, and Siberia, or typically where the climate is cooler.
BENEFITS OF GINSENG
Both American and Asian Ginseng varieties can treat diabetes by balancing blood sugar levels, boost energy, reduce stress, and treat sexual dysfunction. Ginseng has been known as an aphrodisiac for centuries. Different types of Ginseng are known for certain health-boosting qualities. It is important to note that many herbs are loosely called Ginseng, however, if they do not contain the bioactive compounds called ginsenosides, then they are not truly Ginseng. HOW DOES GINSENG WORK?
Ginseng works primarily through its saponins, considered the principal and most active constituents.
The biologically active chemical constituents of Ginseng plants include saponins, ginseng oils and phytosterol, carbohydrates and sugars, organic acids, nitrogenous substances, amino acids and peptides, vitamins and minerals, and certain enzymes that promote cellular health. American, Japanese, San-ch'i, Himalayan, and Siberian ginseng roots contain many saponins like those found in Ginseng, but the overall plant compounds are very different. One should look for Ginseng that contains ginsenosides to receive all the benefits listed herein.
